Thinking About Coaching?
Coaching for NICA is a fun and fulfilling experience, and one of the best parts is that anyone can do it! You don’t have to know how to shred those trails or catch that air to help out—we’ll teach you the skills you need to coach your team’s student-athletes. You can contribute as much of your time as your schedule allows, and coaching is often fun for parents, as they have a common activity and have the opportunity to spend more time with their kids. There are ways to help with a team that do not involve biking, such as organizing race weekend food or activities and communicating with parents. However you decide to help, we want you to know that it will be appreciated. Coaching is the lifeblood of our organization, and we couldn’t do it without you.
Now that you are super-stoked to get involved, consider helping your local team or starting a team in your area or school. You can do this, and we will help!

Email the Team Director to let them know you want to coach and/or register your student-athlete for that team. The Team Director will respond with information about the team and how to get started.
Don’t see a team in your area? Start one! Here’s how…
Step 1: Decide you want to start a team! Contact Bree Campbell to get the process started.
Step 2: Hold an info meeting for your community. Can be virtual or in-person. You, the local person, do the outreach and get people to the meeting. Nebraska NICA will provide the content and expertise to get the community excited about starting a team and answer any community questions. (Generally happens in the winter but it’s never too late!)
Step 3: Recruit coaches and get coaches to training events. Parents are the best people to recruit. You can assure them that they don’t need to be an expert biker – Nebraska NICA will teach them how to teach bike skills to kids. (And teach bike skills to them in the process!).
Step 4: Host a Try-It-Out. Coordinate with Bree to schedule. Nebraska NICA brings the bikes and instructors. You bring the kids!
Step 5: Plan and begin preseason events and practices! You’re ready to go!
